The Korean Presbyterian Church is an addition to the 90,000 square foot Knickerbocker Laundry factory. While the industrial language of the original structure was maintained and its Art Deco façade familiar to passing rail commuters was restored, a 50,000 square foot addition was suspended above it as an independent structural entity. In a digital simulation, dynamic formal responses to contextual flows were arrested and crystallized into faceted strips that index the eccentricities of the existing building. The project, which remained within the client's limited budget, was described by Herbert Muschamp of the New York Times as the "most impressive interior in New York in many years" and "a building as striking as those we once had to go to Los Angeles to see."
