The design of Faith Christian Church is influenced by two metaphors: the Biblical Tabernacle from the book of Exodus - the origin of ritual worship - and a metaphorical representation of the current agricultural use of the 14-acre site. The initial structure is dimensionally proportional to the original cubits of the Biblical Tabernacle. The agricultural metaphor of corn cultivation represents the growth of both the church complex and the community. As the program expands southward from the first phase, the cornrows rise out of the cultivated land to encompass and protect their “seed” in the Tabernacle.
