The design of the University of Cincinnati Boathouse began as students examined the rowing stroke and investigated the physiology and mechanics of the rowing cycle in an academic seminar. This diagram was translated across the site and coupled with programmatic elements to produce a structure of layered surfaces that overlap to provide extension and continuity between spaces. An active solar system was incorporated in the outermost skin. As part of the University’s progressive pursuit of environmental sustainability, this project would be submitted for Leadership In Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Certification.
